Angus
We first met our beautiful rescue puppy, Angus, a pitbull/black lab mix, back in 2014. What made the first encounter so special was that we found him at an arts festival that allowed a local puppy rescue group to set up a small adoption pen on the street that contained Angus and 11 of his litter brothers and sisters.
When my two young daughters approached the pen while their Mommy shopped for art objects at the next stall, they remember all but one puppy rushing to the front of the pen, yelping for attention. One shy, beautiful black puppy stayed by himself in the back of the pen. My daughters asked if they could see him. When my wife saw a puppy in my daughter’s arms, she flipped out and yelled “Put that dog back!” My smitten, canny daughter said, “If you insist, you do it!” and handed over the sweet, gentle puppy, who immediately snuggled into my wife’s arms and went to sleep. That was the moment that the new Keel family dog chose us.
We named him Angus and this sweet, loving, gentle dog proceeded to give us 12 amazing years of unconditional love. He sadly became riddled with cancer this year and we did not want him to suffer. His comfort mattered more than ours. The decision to say goodbye is extraordinarily difficult, but it’s the right thing to do for the pet you loved and who loved you in return. Thankfully, having The Animal Soul here in our home, allowing Angus to be in the comfort of the surroundings and family he so loved, made all the difference.
